Held at Mahameru Resto at 6:30 PM WIB, the 11.11 International Singles Day Celebration was organized as a continuation of the inaugural International Singles Day initiative by the Youth Division of the Surabaya Chinese Community Association (PMTS / 印尼泗水华裔联谊会). The event was designed as an inclusive and welcoming social platform for single adults in Surabaya.
The celebration was made possible through collaboration among 10 Chinese community organizations in Surabaya, including the East Java Indonesian Chinese Youth Association (IPTI), Xian You Indonesian Community Association, Youth Division of Hwie Tiauw Ka Organization, Union Club Surabaya Social and Cultural Foundation, Surabaya Chinese Women’s Association, Indonesian Chinese Association (INTI) Surabaya, Lin Clan Association Surabaya, Xu Clan Association of East Java, Huang Clan Association of East Java, and the East Java Teochew Association.
As reported by Jawa Pos, a total of 100 participants took part in the event, with an equal composition of 50 men and 50 women. Participants ranged in age from 25 to 50 years old and were brought together in a relaxed dinner setting that encouraged open interaction and conversation.
The event adopted a simple yet engaging speed dating concept. Female participants remained seated at their tables, while male participants rotated clockwise. Each pair was given three minutes to converse before moving on to the next table.
Event Coordinator Liong Pascariana stated that the event aimed to foster meaningful social connections. “We used the momentum of International Singles Day to create a platform where singles could meet and potentially find their life partners,” she said.
Through this initiative, the organizers hope to continue building relevant and positive social spaces that strengthen community bonds and interpersonal connections in Surabaya’s modern urban society.
